Chief Executive Officer
Ken Marchingo is an extraordinarily successful Chief Executive with a history of incubating and growing not only his core organisation, but also ancillary and related organisations to support his core agency’s mission in regional Victoria, state & nationwide.
With a 40 year career in community, non-government & public sector housing, he has been recognised for his outstanding work by being inducted as a Member of the Order of Australia.
Over 27 years Ken built Haven; Home, Safe from a one worker service, rising phoenix like from the effectively bankrupt ruins he took over in1994 to a world recognised exemplar service, and one of, if not the only, truly integrated housing and homelessness services in Australia today. Ken completed a 6 month stint as the Interim CEO at CHCA, and was called back to the permanent position by the Board after being away from Alice Springs for some months.
At the time Ken resigned from Haven; Home, Safe Australia’s First Registered Affordable Housing Association, it had assets of $370M, a confirmed pipeline of $70M of developments underway and recurrent annual revenue of more than $42M; With 5 offices, a purpose built multi storey head office and almost 200 staff. From a zero base.
Ken also received an auspicious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 from his peers and colleagues at Power Housing Australia (PHA), the industry advocacy group he established in 2004, which has morphed into Community Housing Australia in 2025. Ken is a previous Chair of the prestigious International Housing Partnership (IHP) and in October 2013 hosted the first ever Australian based IHP Leadership Exchange in Sydney.
Ken is a regular speaker, nationally, internationally, has been a keynote presenter at the largest Housing and Homelessness conferences on 3 continents and regularly across Australia, was invited to develop and run Founders courses for the Chartered Institute of Housing in Canada on leadership and innovation and has a high local and regional media profile in Regional Victoria where he has lived and worked for his entire career. (ABC’s regional ‘man about town’ for over 15 years!)
