Code of Ethics and Conduct
A practitioner will regard the welfare of the client as their primary obligation
A practitioner will not discriminate in the provision of service to their client on the basis of race, colour, religion, age, sex, or national ancestry
A practitioner will give precedence to professional responsibility over personal interests
A practitioner will hold themselves responsible for the quality and extent of the service they perform
A practitioner will respect the privacy, rights, and needs of the clients they serve at all times
A practitioner will use information gained in professional relationships in a responsible manner
A practitioner will treat the findings, views, and actions of colleagues with respect, and use appropriate channels to express judgement on these matters
A practitioner will practice their profession within the recognised knowledge and competence of the profession
A practitioner will accept responsibility to help protect the community against unethical practise by any individuals or organisations engaged in hypnotic services
A practitioner will distinguish clearly, in public, between any statements and actions as an individual and as a representative of an organisation
A practitioner supports the principle that professional practice requires professional education
A practitioner will contribute knowledge, skills and support to the welfare of humanity
A practitioner will provide services in a safe and ethical manner
A practitioner diagnosed with an infectious medical condition that can be passed on to clients must ensure that he/she practices in a manner that does not put clients at risk.
A practitioner must not make claims to be qualified, willing or able to cure cancer and other terminal illnesses
A practitioner will adopt standard precautions for control of infection in his/her practice
A practitioner must accept the rights of his/her clients to make informed choices in relation to their health care, and co-operate with colleagues and other professionals in the best interests of their client.
A practitioner must not practice under the influence of alcohol or unlawful drugs
A practitioner must not practice while suffering from a physical or mental impairment, disability, condition or disorder (including an addiction to alcohol or a drug, whether or not prescribed) that detrimentally affects, or is likely to detrimentally affect, his/her ability to practice or that places clients at risk of harm
A practitioner must not financially exploit clients
A practitioner must not diagnose or treat an illness or condition without an adequate clinical basis
A practitioner must not engage in any form of misinformation or misrepresentation in relation to products or services he/she provides, or as to his/her qualifications, training or affiliations
A practitioner must not engage in a sexual or other close relationship with a client
A practitioner must comply with the relevant legislation of the State or Commonwealth relating to his/her client’s personal information
A practitioner must maintain accurate, legible and relevant clinical records for each client consultation
A practitioner is recommended to ensure that appropriate indemnity insurance arrangements are in place in relation to his/her practice
A practitioner must display a copy of the Code of Ethics and Conduct in their work place, or provide it for inspection on request.
